[ Highlight ]Mishina Minamoto no Hisamichi was a swordsmith from Iyo, circa Keio (1865-1868). His signatures include: ‘Mishina Omi Sandai no mago Minamoto Hisamichi', ‘Yoshu Yoshida ju Mishina Minamoto no Hisamichi', ‘Mishina Minamoto no Hisamichi', etc. The dates of production include Genji 2 and Keio 1.2. Hisamichi I was a student of Iga no kami Kinmichi II, a master craftsman who created swords around Kanbun (1661-1673) and is recognised as one of the five Kyoto swordsmiths. The grandson of the Kyo third Omi no kami Hisamichi, who created swords around Gembun (1736-1741), became a clan craftsman of the Yoshida Date family in Yosyu (1789-1801) together with his father Hisamichi, and made the signature ‘Mishina Omi no kami Hisamichi'. He is thought to be a descendant of Mishina Minamoto no Hisamichi, who followed in Hisamichi's footsteps and left behind created swords with the body layout demanded at the end of the Edo period, oriented towards the flamboyant blade patterns inherited from the Hisamichi family. This sword is long, with a shallow curvature, wide width and slightly thick layering, with an exceptionally long stem of approximately 27.7 cm, and has a unique shape with a hikae mekugi hole.
