[ Highlight ]
Higashiyama Yoshihira "東山美平", known as Umetada Denzaburo "梅忠伝三郎", is thought to have been a swordsmith of the Umetada school. He is said to have inscribed his work in the Kanbun and Enpo periods, and in his later years he inscribed his work as Oe Keiryu "大江慶隆", and also as Higashiyama Muneyuki "東山宗雪" and Oe Takamitsu "大江孝満". The inscription on this sword is not by Higashiyama Yoshihira himself, but is a later inscription with a kiritsuke inscription that states that it was suriage advanced by Jotaro Mitsuo "城太郎光雄" in June of the second year of the Kansei era. The reisho-style script of this inscription has a similar feel to that of the existing inscriptions by Higashiyama Yoshihira, but without Yoshihira's habit of rising to the right. Jotaro Mitsuo is therefore considered to be a related swordsmith.
