[ Highlight ]
Kanekuni Ogawa "尾川兼圀", whose real name was Kunihiko Ogawa"尾川邦彦" , was born in Taisho"大正" 14(1924). He became the youngest swordsmith to be commissioned by the army at the age of 18, and made swords in Chiba City under the name Kunitada"圀忠". His sword making during the war was consumed by the fires of war and no remaining works could be found, so he was unable to prove his career as a swordsmith after the war, so he took up other professions. However, he never gave up on the path of becoming a swordsmith, and with the belief that "a lifetime of study is a lifetime of study," he had an opportunity to study under Magoroku Kaneko "金子孫六" at the age of 50. And, 24 years after the war, returned to the sword-making as a metier, and in no time at all, he made great strides, and was promoted to the rank of "unreviewed" "無鑑査" in Heisei 18(2006). This work, made at the age of 59, is an outstanding example of Kanekuni Ogawa's broad, dynamic and well-balanced form. The inscription, "Bugei Hachiman" "武藝八幡" is from Yawata, Bugegawa-cho, Seki City, Gifu Prefecture. The sword is housed in a well-conditioned iai-koshirae.
