[ Size ] Blade length 72,7cm (2 shaku 2 sun 5 bu 7 rin), sori 2.2cm (7 bu 2 rin), moto-haba 3.16cm, moto-kasane 0.70cm, saki-haba 2.11 cm, saki-kasane 0.65 cm, mekugi-ana(hole) 1, blade weight 790.5g , shirasaya length 95.5cm, koshirae length 97cm

[ Province ] Ô-saka "大阪"

[ Feature ]
Form : Shinogi-zukuri. Mitsu-mune. Both mihaba and kasane are ordinal. Deep sori attached. Chû-kissaki form.
Nakago : Ubu. Yasurimes are sujikais and keshô. Saki is kuri-jiri. One hole.
Jigane : Aya-sugi-hada. Jinie attached. Pale utsuri appeared.
Hamon : Suguha-tone. Komidares, and especially upper half, gunomes mixed. Ko-ashis appeared. Ko-nie attached.
Boushi : It runs in sugu. It turns in ko-maru.

Koshirae : shu-iro kawari-nui-zaya uchigana-koshirae ; tsuba : no pattern sumon tsuba brass edge fukurin cover ; fuchigashira : turtle shell pattern cooper kikkô plate, gold colored iroe; menuki : iron-fan tessen desighn (cooper plate, gold colored iroe)

[ Highlight ]

GASSAN Sadakatsu "月山貞勝" was born at Yari-ya-chô "鎗屋町", Ô-saka city in Meiji "明治" 2(1869). He was a first son of first generation GASSAN Sadakazu "月山貞一". The swords of his father Sadakazu which made during his last years, many of them were forged by Sadaktsu. This was mentioned on the note which written by Sadakazu himself. There are not so many swords with the signature "貞勝". Most of them created during Taishô 8(1919) through Shôwa 18(1943). In Taishô10(1921), an organization established (e.g. "月山軍刀頒布会"). In Shôwa 10(1935), his workshop was built in Yoshino-yama, Nara prefecture. He paid effort to create swords and train his students. Sadakatsu created many swords for Imperial house. It was said that those activities were supported by Mr. ICHIKI Kitokurô, who succesively hold positions of a jurist, a minister of Ministry of the Imperial Household and chairman of Privy Council. During the war time of Japan, he concentrated into creation of swords. In Shôwa 9(1934), he was honoured as a meritorious person in technical art field. Before end of war, he died, in Shôwa 18(1943). He devoted in Shugendō of Ô-mine-san. He climbed twice of three time per year in order to concentrate mentally. He made himself so strict on him for swords creation. It was consisted and can be felt appreciating his swords.
This sword has specific jigane, called aya-sugi-hada, the wave which mixed mokume, in which pale utsuri appeared. In suguha tone hamon, ko-midares, ko-gunomes mixed, ko-nie attached and ashis appeared. Those changes are shown naturally. A sword with high sori attached magnific form.

[ Conditions ]

There are some horizontal and vertical scratches, small rusts and extremely tiny nicked edge. The sword will be revied impressively by the polishment.
