[ Highlight ] According to the book of signatures, Ueno Daijo Kunitoshi was a Tosa swordsmith who made swords during the Genroku period (1688-1704) in the middle of the Edo period. Other Tosa swordsmiths of the Shin-Shinto period who are also mentioned in the Meikan are a swordsmith (Kimura) who cut the signature "Fujiwara no Kunitoshi" (土州住藤原国利) around Bunka (1804-1818) and a swordsmith (Kimura Heiemon) of the Tsunatoshi lineage who cut the signature "Fujiwara no Kunitoshi" (藤原国利) around Kaei (1848-1855). This work has a back date of Koka 3 (1846) and is considered to be made in either of the shin-shinto sword periods. The honoured receiving signature is cut slightly larger.
