[ Feature ] [ Highlight ] This piece features a high ridge and a tip that is curved at the tips, with a short tang that flares towards the tip—a form characteristic of late Bizen-period blades. It is thought to have been used as a wakizashi during the Edo period, with the tang slightly lengthened and the blade slightly widened. 1. The surface is well-grained, with a forged surface that blends itame grain and mokume-grain patterns; 2. the hamon features a well-defined, irregular mottled pattern; and 3. the hamon features chōji-ha and pointed-ha, as well as ashi, ha, tobi-yaki and sunagashi. Katsumitsu of the Eishō era was the son of Ukyō-no-suke Katsumitsu and the fifth generation of the family; he was known as Jirōzaemon-no-jo or Jirōzaemon-no-jo, and produced dated works from the Chōkyō to Tenbun periods.
