[ Period ] Muromachi, second half of.
[ Province ] Mino

[ Feature ]
Form : A tanto-style blade with a flat grind, iori-mune profile, standard width and thickness, a shallow curvature, and a tip with a thinner thickness than the base.
Nakago : The end is in its raw state, with a normal down ward hatched file mark; the tip is chestnut-shaped, and there is a single mekugi hole.
Engraving : The engraving features a main groove accompanied by a secondary groove on the obverse, whilst the reverse has a main groove with two secondary grooves running alongside it.
Jigane : The jigane exhibits an itame-hada grain, with a slightly raised surface texture and ji-nie.
Hamon : The hamon consists of a mixture of gunome and pointed hamon; the hamon edge is slightly frayed, with small nie and fine sunagashi patterns.
Boushi : The boushi is irregularly curved, curving back to a small round tip, giving it a Jizō-style appearance.

[ Highlight ] Kanesada was a swordsmith of the Seki school in Mino Province; there were several swordsmiths by this name during the Muromachi period. The blade features an itame-hada grain with a well-defined texture and a ji-nie-patterned jigane, and displays a dynamic gunome-midare wavy blade pattern.

[ Conditions ] It has been some time since it was polished, and there are some scuff marks and minor rust.

[ Attachments ]  Habaki (gold-plated single), shira-saya, shira-saya bag, NBTHK tokubetsu kicho paper (issued on 30 March Shōwa 43(1968))
