[ Highlight ] Yamato-no-kami Tadayuki was a Bungo swordsmith who made swords in the early Edo period, around the Kan'ei period. His name is Nakama Banta, and some of his swords have signatures such as 'Bungo Takada ju Yamato Daijo Fujiwara Tadayuki' and 'Yamato-no-kami Fujiwara Tadayuki'. Bungo Takada does not refer to the present Takada City, but to Takada, an ancient euplet near Kokokufu, Oita City. Following the first generation, Shin Gobei, the second generation, who made his sword around the Jokyo period, and Shinzaemon, who made his sword around the Kyoho period, also assumed the name Yamato-no-kami Tadayuki. The fine-ground iron jigane has a well-forged surface, with fine nie, and the blade is carefully decorated with a double, cross-shaped blade pattern both on the front and back sides and under the yokote. This workmanship suggests that the sword was made with a particular emphasis on Yamato-den, and it is possible that this sword was made on the occasion of the receipt of the Yamato-no-kami. In any case, he is a highly skilled swordsmith.

[ Conditions ] The blade has been polished and is very excellent. The katana's handle threads are slightly frayed, but otherwise excellent.

[ Attachments ] Habaki(suaka-ji, silver foiled, double),shirasaya, bag of shirasaya, koshirae, bag of koshirae and NBTHK kicho paper (issued on 21st Apr. Showa48(1973))
