[ Highlight ] Kawachinokami Kanesada, he was called Monjyu Matasaburo and also made swords in Kyoto and Edo Honjo. He also appears to have been a skilled maker of spears and naginata swords, with many examples of his work. The swordsmith is considered to be a member of the Tegai school of swordsmiths, as one of his works bears the inscription '和州手掻包永末葉河内守包定'. Chronological inscriptions include Kanbun 11, Enpo 3 and Jokyo 3. (e.g. 寛文十一、延宝三、貞享三). This work is accompanied by an Edo period outfit, and is also worth seeing for its all-over mountings with arabesque patterns and boar eyes, and the composition of the pattern, which shows changes in colouration by overlaying or painting different parts with coloured urushi lacquer.

[ Conditions ] The sword is healthy and can be appreciated and preserved in its current state, with only minor rusting. The sword is well-preserved, with a taste of the Edo period.

[ Attachments ] Habaki (suaka-ji, gold foiled, single), shirasaya, bag of shirasaya, koshirae and bag of koshirae.
