[ Highlight ]Ise-no-kami Kiyokata, born in the 11th year of Genroku (1698), was a Satsuma swordsmith of the mid-Edo period. A son of Kiyofusa of the Nakamura clan, he was originally named Kiyonobu but later changed his name to Kiyokata. He served the Kii-Kimotsuki clan as a personal attendant to Kimotsuki Kaneshina (the lord’s younger brother). In the 6th year of Kyōhō (1721), when he received a commission for a wakizashi sword from Tsugutoyo, the lord’s eldest son, he devoted himself to creating swords alongside his father. The following year, he presented an independent work to the lord and received words of encouragement. In Enkyō 2 (1745), he was granted permission to travel to the capital to receive his title; the following year, through the intercession of Iga-no-kami Kinmichi, he was appointed Ise-no-kami and granted permission to use the sixteen-petalled chrysanthemum crest. This piece is characterised by a blade that is broad in relation to its length, with a high ridge, presenting a robust and majestic appearance. It is fitted with a sheath and fittings featuring a unified tiger motif.

[ Conditions ] It is in excellent condition. The sheath was newly crafted during the Heisei era using Edo period metal fittings.
