[ Highlight ] The first-generation Tamba no Kami Yoshimichi I was the third son of Seki Kanemichi. He was known as one of four brothers alongside Iga no Kami Kinmichi, Izumi no Kami Kinmichi, and Etchu no Kami Masatoshi, greatly prospering the Mishina clan. This signature later continued for several generations in Kyoto and Osaka, developing distinctive curtain-like blade patterns. The primary attraction of this piece lies in its profound character, reminiscent of the flowing cursive script in calligraphy, where the nie and sunagashi patterns are less refined than in later generations. The Kyoto founder, Tanba no Kami Yoshimichi, was also known as “Hokake Tanba” (Sail-Tanba) because the character “丹” (tan) in his signature resembled a sailboat. One can also appreciate the typical style of his signature. This wakizashi boasts a sound jigane (ground blade) and a majestic form.
