[ Highlight ] The first Izuminokami Kunisada (Oya-Kunisada) was born in Obi, Hyūga Province. He travelled to Kyoto and became a late disciple of Horikawa Kunihiro, also receiving instruction from Kunihiro's pupil Kunitomo. Following Kunihiro's death in Keichō 19 (1614), he relocated to Osaka and received the title of Izuminokami in Genna 9 (1623). Alongside his fellow disciple Kawachi no Kami Kunisuke, he flourished as a founding figure of the Osaka smiths. In his later years, he became a Buddhist monk, taking the name Dōwa, and passed away in the fifth year of Keian (1652), aged sixty-three. This work features a richly scented blade with abundant nie boils, displaying a splendid hamon pattern where mutsu-me intermingles with guno-me. The wide yakihada forms large patterns, combining with its imposing form to create a powerful presence.
