[ Highlight ]The twenty-fifth-generation swordsmith Fujiwara no Kanefusa, whose given name was Kato Kazuo, was born in 1957 in Seki City, Gifu Prefecture, as the second son of the twenty-fourth-generation Fujiwara no Kanefusa. In 1975, he became a disciple of the Living National Treasure, Gassan Sadakazu. He received his official approval to create swords in 1982 and, that same year, accompanied Master Gassan to participate in the Living National Treasures Exhibition held in Boston, USA. In 1983, he began studying under his father, the 24th-generation Kanemasa. The following year, 1984, he established the Japanese Sword Forging Dojo and assumed the name of the 25th-generation Fujiwara no Kanemasa. Highly acclaimed at domestic exhibitions, he has also energetically pursued overseas activities, introducing Japanese swords in Moscow and Saint Petersburg, Russia, and demonstrating Japanese sword forging in Cologne and Munich, Germany. He presented seven swords to the King of Jordan. He is a contemporary swordsmith renowned for diverse activities including dedications to Meiji Shrine and Atsuta Shrine, crafting swords for Yokozuna in sumo, and creating treasured swords for the Shijo Tsukasa family.
