[ Feature ]
Form : It has a flat shape, iori-mune, thick layers of grain, and an inward curvature.
Nakago : it has raw tang with o-sujikai large file marks, a decorative file finish, a tip with a kuri-jiri slight curve, and one mekugi hole.
Engraving : On both sides is a scratched koshi-hi waist groove with a round finish.
Jigane : It has a fine itame-hada and ji-nie.
Hamon : The blade pattern is gunome mixed with chouji and straight at the top. It has a nie pattern, kin-sen lines, and sunagashi.
Boushi : It is straight with a small round tip and a hakikake swept-away tip.

[ Highlight ] This tanto has a well-grained itame-hada (flat grain) and a blade pattern consisting of irregular blades that connect to form a straight blade. It has a long tang and a thick layer of grain that curves inward. Teruyoshi was born in 1823 in Kawai Village, Nawa County, Ueno Province (now Tamamura Town, Sawa County, Gunma Prefecture). He was the son of Terukazu Gyokurinshi and was known as Kumanosuke Fujieda. His common name was Shigetaro. He learned sword-making from his father and later became a disciple of Masayoshi Hosokawa.In the sixth year of the Kaei era (1853), he became a court swordsmith for the Kawagoe domain and contributed to the strengthening of the domain's military defences against foreign ships frequently arriving in Edo Bay.Nankai Taro Ason praised him in his book Shinto Meishu (Collection of New Sword Signatures), saying, ‘He is the best swordsmith in Edo today, and even in his prime, he has reached the pinnacle of his craft.’ He died of illness at the age of 54 in 1876, when the sword ban was issued. This sword is an excellent piece listed in the Joshu Toko Zoufu (Illustrated Collection of Joshu Swordsmiths).
