[ Province ] Echizen

[ Feature ]
Form : The form is shinogi-zukuri, iori-mune, with a slightly wide body, normal thickness, and a medium cutting edge.
Nakago : The nakago is ubu, with a mekugi hole.
Jigane : The jigane has a mixture of itame and mokume grain, with a slight grained pattern come to be appeared. Jinie attached, chikei appeared and a jigane pattern and a slightly blackish iron colour.
Hamon : The hamon is a mixture of choji, gunome and pointed hamon, with ashi, a deep nioi and a lot of nie, and with fine sunagashi.
Boushi : The boush is a straight, round shape with a slight deep turn.

[ Highlight ] Hirotaka was a swordsmith of the Echizen Shimosaka school, active around the time of the Kanbun era. His signatures include ‘Hoki no Daijo Hirotaka’, ‘Echizen no Jyu Hoki no Kami Hirotaka’, ‘Echizen no Jyu Hoki no Kami Shimosaka Hirotaka’, ‘Hoki no Kami Fujiwara Hirotaka, Echizen Jyu Harima Daijo Fujiwara Shigetaka, September 9th, Kanbun 5'(e.g. 1665), and ‘Hoki no Kami Fujiwara Hirotaka, Echizen Jyu’. The years are dated as Kanbun 2, 5, 8, 10, etc. This sword has a rather wide width, a medium cutting edge, and a slightly curved shape. The jigane has a well-arranged itame-hada with a mokume pattern, and the blade has a blackish colour with a hint of kanairo, showing the characteristics of the Shimosaka school. The cho-ji midare blade pattern, which mixes choji with gunome and togari-gokoro, is well-distributed and the work of the nioi is superb. This is a sword that clearly shows the quality of Hirotaka.
