[ Size ] Blade length 28.2cm (9sun4rin), no curvature, moto-haba base width 2.52cm, moto-kasane base thickness 0.62cm, two megugi holes, blade weight 169.7g, shirasaya scabbard length 48cm.

[ Feature ]
Form : Hira-zukuri. Mitsu-mune. Both mihaba and kasane are ordinal. No sori attached form.
Engraving : (omote) Two-way gutter with slightly different widths on the front.　(ura) A tufted gutter with another gutter and a round stop.
Nakago : -
Jigane : Itame-hada, with wooden grain, ji-nie, and a blackish colour.
Hamon : Notare, mokume mixed. Ko-ashi and sunagashi appeared. Nie attached well.
Boushi : It is sugu form with ko-maru shape. It turns rather long. Saki shows haki-kake state.

[ Highlight ] The first generation, Yasutsugu, was from Shimosaka-go in Sakata-gun, Omi Province, and moved to Echizen, where he was employed by Hideyasu Yuki. He was summoned to Edo between Keicho 10 and 11, and forged swords in front of both Ieyasu and Hidetada Tokugawa. As a reward, he was given the Aoi crest and the character ‘Yasu’, and changed his name to Yasutsugu. The same name and clan prospered in both Edo and Echizen, and continued until the end of the Edo period. Yasutsugu was skilled at forging imported steel with Japanese steel, and he inscribed his works forged in this way with the words ‘Nanbantetsuwomotte’ (meaning ‘South Barbarian Iron’). The production of Yasutsugu's tanto was extremely rare throughout the first two generations, and this work is a normal-looking tanto with a itame-style hamon that is well-blended with a mokume-mixed, old-looking jigane, and with engravings of different widths on the obverse and reverse sides.
