[ Feature ] [ Highlight ]This is a magnificent blade forged by Miyamoto Kanenori, an Imperial Household Artisan, during his time as a clan craftsman for the Inaba clan (Tottori Domain). On 17th August 1863, the Honkokuji Incident occurred within the Tottori Domain compound at Honkokuji Temple in Kyoto, where they were stationed for guard duty. Led by Kawata Sakuma, who later became Governor of Tottori Prefecture, twenty-two imperial loyalists attacked pro-shogunate senior officials. Whether by domain policy or not, Kanenori had opened a forge in Kyoto from June that year. From the following Genji era through to the Keio era, he created magnificent swords – practical combat blades – unseen in the preceding or subsequent periods. This piece possesses a distinctive tension characteristic of this period, conveying the resilient will of the clan craftsman Kōsuke as he sought to navigate the turbulent times. It has a suri-age appearance, suggesting an original blade length of around two shaku four sun and a half. [ Conditions ] The blade has a slight chip and some minor flaws, but is otherwise excellent) |
