[ Feature ]
Form : Hirazukuri, iori-mune, ordinary width, a thick layer of grain, slight curvature at the tip towards the blade edge, abrupt tapering at the point with a hollowed-out appearance.
Nakago : Raw ubu-nakago, file marks descending at random, tip sword-shaped, two mekugi holes.
Jigane : The jigane is ko-gunome small-grained, with flowing patterns in places and ji-nie attached.
Hamon : The hamon is a straight blade pattern with some irregularities, featuring fine ko-niei and a fine sunagashi flow.
Boushi : Its pattern is fully tempered.

[ Highlight ] Fujiwara Masatsugu was a swordsmith who resided in Hachinohe, Oshu, during the late Edo period, around the Keio era. In the fourth year of Kanbun (1664), among the successive lords of the Hachinohe domain, which had been ruled by nine generations of the Nanbu clan since the first lord, Nanbu Naofusa, the lord during the period when Masatsugu, with his signature “Nanbu Jo”, created swords was the last ninth lord, Nanbu Nobuyuki (son of Shimazu Shigehide, the eighth lord of the Kagoshima domain). He also left his signature on this piece, which is titled ‘Masatsugu of Hachinohe, Oshu’. This piece is characterised by its compact size and a distinctive, slightly curved bamboo-shoot-like curvature. It is also recognised as a local sword of Hachinohe City, Aomori Prefecture.

[ Conditions ] There are slight flaws, but otherwise it is excellent.
