[ Highlight ] Sadahiro Kita was born in 1922, and in 1939 he became an apprentice to Sadakatsu Gassan in Osaka. In 1943 he was appointed a sword maker by the Imperial Japanese Navy, and he was active in the field, winning prizes at exhibitions of swords created by the Imperial Japanese Army and at exhibitions of sword-making techniques. After the war, he received approval to create swords in 1963, and won numerous awards at the New Master Swords Exhibition, including the Mainichi Newspapers Award, the Honorary Chairman's Award, the Encouragement Award, and the Effort Award. He was a swordsmith who created swords at his base in Ikaruga, Nara Prefecture. From the time he was commissioned by the Navy to make swords, he worked hard to research the restoration of old swords, and as he himself had struggled to obtain high-quality materials for creating swords, he was delighted by the Japan Art Swords Preservation Society's plan to manufacture tamahagane, and hoped to train up young swordsmiths as bearers of traditional techniques. This sword has a wide blade and a normal thickness of the blade, with a deeply carved straight grooves on both sides of the blade and a curved form in the lower part of the blade to balance the sword in the hand. The blade has a beautiful jigane with a tight itame-hada grain, and a wavy blade pattern with ko-midare small irregularities and a mixture of kin-suji gold streaks and sunagashi.
[ Conditions ] There are slight nicks and scratches on the blade, and there are some flaws and small rust spots. The signature on the back has been erased.
