[ Feature ]
Form : Ryo-shinogi-zukuri. There are few diffrences between moto-haba and saki-haba but saki-haba becomes a little wider.
Nakago : Ubu. Yasurime are katte-sagari. Saki is kuri-jiri. Two holes
Jigane : Itame-hada with some masa changes. Jinie attached.
Hamon : Nie base, with notare-midara. Sunagashi appeared. On omote front side, there are some tobi-yaki.
Boushi : With yaki-tsume state, it has haki-kake form.

[ Highlight ] Sudo Kunitsugu was a sword-making family who lived in Koga, Kii Province, and their signature is characterised by the way the character ‘国’ (kun) in their signature is cut into a shape similar to a rice symbol. The first generation is said to have been a pupil of Norizane of the Iruka school around the year 1460, and is known to have been employed as a sword-maker at Kogaji Temple in Koga (Kinokawa City, Wakayama Prefecture) during the Muromachi period, around the years 正長・宝徳・文明・永正・天文・天正 1452, 1455, 1466, 1492, 1504 and 1521. Among these, Kunitsugu, who lived around the Eisho era, is said to have stayed in the province of Sagami, and there are works by him that have been designated as National Treasures. This work is a sword with a striking appearance, with a slightly ‘kasubaru’ jigane (the grain of the iron) and a slight wavy pattern with a small amount of ko-nie (a type of patterning on the surface of the blade), and with a sand-like pattern on the surface. It is a rare and valuable work that is rarely seen.
