[ Highlight ] Hizen Kuniyoshi was a Hizen swordsmith active from the end of the Edo period to around the beginning of the Meiji era (1868-1912). He was a student of the eighth generation of the prestigious Hizen Tadayoshi family, which began during the Keicho era and continued throughout the Edo period.
The swords made by Yoshikane have a certain elegance in their ruggedness that reflects the historical background of the end of the Edo period, which is evident in the fact that they were also cherished by Eto Shimpei and Shima Giyu, who lived at the same time.

The signatures on the blade include "Hizen Province Yoshifusa", "Hizen Province Saga Resident Fujiwara Yoshifusa" and "Hizen Province Fujiwara Yoshifusa", and there is also an inscription on the blade of a poem by Sanjo Sanetomi, dated November 1868 (Meiji 1).
This sword has a blade length of approximately 2 shaku 4sun, with a broad blade and a broad kissaki, giving the sword a bold appearance and a heavy feel. It is accompanied by a contemporary make koshirae.
