[ Province ] Mutsu

[ Feature ]
Form : Shinogi-zukuri. Iori-mune. Both mihaba and kasane are ordinal. Deep naka-zori attached, saki zori attached as well. Chu-kissaki form.
Nakago : Suri-age. Yasurime are not itemized. Saki is kuri-jiri. Three holes.
Engraving : both on front omote and back ura, there are futa-suji-hi grooves.
Jigane : O-itame-hada with changes, showing grained patterns. Chikei appeared.
Hamon : Sugu-ha tone. Ko-gunome and ko-notare mixed. Ko-nie attached. Part by part, sunagashi appeared.
Boushi : It runs in shallow notare. It truns in ko-maru form.

[ Highlight ] Although literature states that Oshu produced a large number of swordsmiths in the Heian period, the only surviving examples are Hoshu and Maikusa from the Kamakura period onwards, and the Gassan clan from the Nanbokucho period onwards. The Houju were one of the leading swordsmiths of the Oshu school, and their fame was passed down for a long time from the Kamakura period to the Muromachi period. This sword has a deep curvature and a simple, powerful body, with a slightly large patterned skin tone. The jigane base has a slightly uneven grain and a straight blade with a nie boiling pattern, and is identified as a later Houju sword.

[ Conditions ] The shira-saya and habaki are new. The blade is slightly sharpened and worn, but has a sturdy hand-held feel. There is slight minor rusting.
