[ Highlight ] Sukemitsu was born in 1915 and learned how to create swords under his father Sukemitsu (Eitaro) and Masaji Okishiba in Osaka. He was active as a commissioned swordsmith for the army, and was highly acclaimed, receiving special awards at exhibitions of new Japanese swords. In 1942, he forged the sacred sword of the Kasaoka Shrine in Kasaoka City, Okayama Prefecture. After the war, in 1954, he received approval to create swords on 6 August, which is also Hiroshima Peace Memorial Day, and continued to create swords while receiving awards at exhibitions of new famous swords. This work is a little over two shaku and one sun in length, but has a solid, wide hamon and a long, slender tang, with a shallow curvature. The well-tempered itame forged hamon is covered in ji-nie, and the cho-ji midare blade pattern, which gradually widens from the base to the tip, has a bright, elegant appearance.
