[ Highlight ] Nobutaka was a swordsmith from the Owari clan, and the family prospered for a long time, from the first generation in the Momoyama period to the tenth generation in the Meiji period. Shimizu Jinnoshin Nobutaka was the eighth generation, and a pupil of the sixth generation. His first name was Jinroku-ro Nobunao. The years he used for his signatures include Kansei 6, 8, 9, 11, Bunka 1 and 2, and he died on the 10th day of the 9th month of the 8th year of the Tempo era.
This work has a slender, slightly narrow body with a shallow curvature, and the blade is well-tempered with a mixture of itame grain and mokume wood grain, and the hamon (the pattern of the blade) is a well-nie attached, flowing pattern with a good amount of sunagashi (a pattern of streaks).
The slim wakizashi fits perfectly into the hilt, which is shaped like a tree branch and is as close to nature as possible. This is a type of sword hilt called a ‘shikomizue’, and it is decorated with a reddish gold lacquer and has a rich, shaded aesthetic. The fact that the kouchi snaps shut without the use of metal fittings or clasps also shows the outstanding craftsmanship of the artisan.
[ Conditions ] Excellent.
