[ Highlight ] Akamatsu Taro Kanetsugu, born in 1951 (Showa 26), whose real name is Kimura Kanesada, is a swordsmith from Yatsushiro, Kumamoto Prefecture. After studying under his father, Kimura Kaneshige, he received approval to create swords on 30 November 1976 and initially aimed to create swords in the Fukuoka Ichimonji and Osafune Kagemitsu style. The Akamatsu Taro clan flourished under the leadership of swordsmith Kanetsugu. The Akamatsu Taro clan is particularly famous for its Kiyomaro copies, which have a unique flavour as the swords are created using home-made iron. This work is a waka-uchi (early swordsmith) of the Kanetsugu clan, with a broad and stout body but with an exquisite balance that does not make the sword feel heavy. The sword is made in a martial arts-use arrangement koshirae.
