[ Highlight ] The second-generation Kunisada was a disciple of Izumi-no-kami Kunisada, whom he succeeded as his adopted son. Commonly known as Hachirōbei, he initially signed his blades with the signature of Izumi-no-kami Kunisada, just like his father. Around the fourth year of the Manji era (1661), he was granted permission by the Imperial Court to engrave the chrysanthemum crest on the tang, and in August of the twelfth year of the Kanbun era (1672), he changed his name to Inoue Shinkai. He was one of the two great masters of the Osaka Shintō school, alongside Tsuda Sukehiro, and collaborative blades created with Sukehiro still survive today. This piece displays a base finish that inherits his master’s style, with a vivid kana-iro colour and a bright, sharp, wavy hamon featuring deep nioi and ko-nie.

[ Conditions ] There is a shallow crack in the ridge area, approximately 5 cm above the base of the ridge, near the ridge line. Otherwise, it is excellent.
