[ Highlight ] Ujiyoshi was a swordsmith of the Kaifu school in Awa, whose ancestor was Kaifu Taro, who lived in Miyoshi County around the time of the Koureki period of the Northern and Southern Dynasties, and the same signature was handed down through the Muromachi period to the end of the Edo period. The 'Iwakiri Kaifu', a famous item of the Sengoku-era warlord Miyoshi Nagayoshi's family, is said to have been made by Ujiyoshi in the Eisho period (around the beginning of the 16th century). This sword has a two-character signature on the reverse side, and as it can be recognised by the signatures of signatures of "Iwakiri Kaifu", it is possible that this sword was created by the same person or Ujiyoshi of a similar age. The sword is wide, with a thick layer of grain, and has a rounded blade with a single cut blade, a sturdy construction typical of Kaifu swords. The lower half of the blade is slightly rough on the base, but the itame grain forging in the upper half is superb, and the straight blade with itame grain boiling in response to the base jigane has a tasteful workmanship. The blade is made in the shape of a Warabi-te sword, with the edge of the blade near the tip of the stem being cut away, making it an interesting piece.
