[ Feature ]
Form : The blade is of the shinogi-zukuri style with an iori-mune ridge; it has a relatively wide body and has a somewhat thickened portion near the tip, with the tip thickness remaining relatively low. This results in a sturdy, medium cutting edge form.
Engraving : The engraving features straight and curved lines running along both the front and back surfaces.
Nakago : The tang is polished, with a file-marked pattern resembling a cypress fence; it is cut at the tip and has two mekugi holes.
Jigane : The jigane has an itame-hada texture, with a fine grain and some ji-nie patterns.
Hamon : The hamon is a mixed pattern of interlocking and small irregular waves, interspersed with small chisels and pointed edges; it has a fine grain and is overlaid with sunagashi patterns.
Boushi : The boushi curves into a small round shape.

"兼定 濃州関住参代にして時代天文頃 刃文互の目丁子見事也 長サ貮尺四寸貳分五厘有之 正真 明治二巳三月五京都屋敷 本阿弥平十郎(花押)"
Sccabard inscription: Kanesada, a master smith from Seki in Mino Province, active during the Tenmon era. The hamon pattern, consisting of interlocking ‘gunome’ and ‘chōji’ motifs, is magnificent. Length: 2 shaku, 4 sun, 2 bu, 5 rin. Authentic. 5 March 1869, at the Kyoto residence of Hon’ami Heijūrō (sealed design).

Black stone-grain pattern lacquered sheath for an uchigatana: Sword guard with a floral design and ko-sukashi small openwork (iron jigane with brass inlay rim), menuki with a bamboo design, and a fuchigashira with a woven basket pattern

[ Highlight ] Kanesada was a leading swordsmith of the late Muromachi period in Seki, Mino, alongside Kanemoto. This piece has been identified as the work of a later-period Kanesada from the end of the Muromachi era. It is a sturdy, hand-held blade measuring over two shaku and four sun in length, with a suri-age appearance due to being shortened by over five centimetres. It features an itame-hada with a well-defined ji-nie, whilst the hamon is mixed with chouji and small wavy blade patterns, as well as pointed edges. It comes with an iaido-style sheath featuring an stone-patterned lacquer finish.

[ Conditions ] The blade shows some slight flaws and has minor rust spots on the blade of the sword near the small ridge and on the sheath near the lower edge of the yokote. The sheath combines Edo-period fittings with modern ones and was crafted in the present day, achieving excellent condition.
