[ Highlight ] This piece is a wakizashi forged from a naginata that underwent extensive regrinding, attributed to Unjū of the Ukai school from Bizen Province. The Ukai school is also recorded as the Ukan school, with Unsho and Unji as its representative craftsmen. Both are said to have travelled to Kyoto and served Emperor Go-Daigo. A characteristic feature is that, whilst Bizen swordsmiths, their style shows connections to Yamashiro and Bitchū Aoe. Unjū, active around the mid-Nanbokuchō period, represented the next generation of this school. This piece features a broad body that is curved at the tips and sharp-edged, with a slightly flared tip that curves sharply. Its jigane exhibits an itame grain pattern with intermingled flakes, showing slight surface texture, ground spots, and a hint of reflection. The hamon displays a deep nioi (scent) with abundant nie (bubbling), forming a sharp, straight-edged wavy blade pattern interspersed with small irregularities.

[ Conditions ] There are some slightly rough areas on the bases, but otherwise it is excellent.
