[ Highlight ]There are several swordsmiths with the name Tennenshi, and the Book of Signatures lists six signatures: Masatake of Dewa, circa 1789-1801; Masahira and Kazutora of Musashi, also circa Kansei; Toshimasa of Shinano, circa Tempo (1831-1845) (doujin Yamaura Masao); Masatoshi of Shinano, circa Kaei (1848-1854) (doujin Yamaura Masao); and Takao of Shinano, circa Ansei (1855-1860). Six swordsmiths' signatures are listed, including Takao of Shinano. Nanko Takao is presumed to be a member of Kiyomaro's family in the Book of Signatures, probably because of the date the swords were made and his place of residence. Kiyomaro is Masao's younger brother. This work is a reference to the fact that Takao lived in Nanto, another name for the ancient capital of Nara, around the third year of Meiji (1870).
